But the mysterious cloaked figure is in fact my husband looking like the Super Geek he most DEFINITELY is NOT (the cloak belongs to my friend Ian the bearded fellow holding his stuffed Darth Vader toy) and there is Kris and Porter in the same play area Sam's playing and posing in. :D

A Month of Letters! (a goal and a challenge)

A Month of Letters

I have always loved getting letters. I am also old enough to remember the days of paper letters sent “Snail Mail”. I wrote to my friends in other parts of the globe and received in return a tangible hand written missive. Those days seem long ago. With modern technology like emailing, text and instant messaging the art of the paper letter seems to have all but disappeared from most of our lives.
Which is why I'm doing this. I want to reconnect with the people I care about in a real and genuine way. How often have I dashed off a quick note in email or FaceBook message, something brief and riddled with net speak like “LOL” poor English like “gunna” and “ya know?” I'm sure the notes were appreciated, but how much more would a real letter be?
So this is me trying to single-handedly re-ignite the letter writing fire by this my challenge!

The Challenge:
To write (and SEND) at least one real honest to goodness letter every day for 30 days. I had thought to insist they all be paper letters sent snail mail but lets be honest who has that kind of time? There's reason why back in the day I WROTE a lot of letters but very few actually made it through the laborious process of finding its way into an envelope that was properly addressed AND stamped and then mailed. So email is fine, heck even text messaging or Instant messaging I suppose so long as it starts out with the persons name or even “Dear so and so” and ends with “Sincerely” or some other nice way of closing it and your name. I will also say it should be at LEAST two paragraphs and no

“Dear so and so,

I wanted to write you a letter, so I am.

Did you know I really like waffles?

Sincerely,
Me”

Does NOT count, a paragraph by my definitions is at least a handful of complete sentences strung together. :D

That's it, write letters to people you know well or not so well, family and friends, and even friends of friends. Can't think of anyone to write? You could write a solider http://www.soldiersangels.org/ or ask for recommendations from people you DO know so you could find yourself a new pen-pal! Be creative, the point is to connect with others through the power of letter writing.

Feel free to send me letters you're especially proud of, and I may post some or parts from some of the ones I write. Also I know its not the 1st of the month which would probably make this easier but heck, if I put this off I may not do it. So I'll start now, on the 21st of September my Month of Letters!

Sammy wearing a princess dress we made together out of scraps of fabric, an old tshirt and some ribbon (not a stitch of sewing we're so crafty). My 2 talented kids!
Porter last week tested for his "Green Instructor" belt and I got to be there and snap some action shots. He goes to Tae Kwon Do lessons Mon, Wed and Fri. He loves it and I'm so proud of him. Samantha of course LOVES music and with a recent goodwill find play guitar/violin, she has gone from just singing with a mic to actually "Rocking Out" as she says. I know I'm biased but I think them both incredibly talented and cute.

Sammy's 4th birthday, she helped to make her own cake and had a fun time helping to decorate it too. I can't believe just a month ago my baby turned three!

Sammy's in her Angel wings, I made them for her for Halloween two years ago and she still LOVES wearing them! She also wanted me to take a picture of her new PINK shirt and new 'hair pretties'. There's more to come, but its way too early to be up on the first day of college classes winter semester so off I go. (there will be more Christmas pics and a whole lot of fun ones from Tylers Wedding in SLC we just got home from so check back!)

Double Your Pleasure Double your Fun

SO this marks the triumphant return to blogging. This is a double exposed picture of Sam and Sam and I. It looks as if the pictures we took in Yosemite at the family reunion in August are underneath and whole other dozen pictures were taken on top of them. I blame an execptionally cheap camera and a daughter who is entirely too smart for her own good (She managed to hit the rewind botton and then take more pictures).

Okay so Chantel is not even close to being a baby any more, but, STILL she is my youngest sister and I clearly remember changing diapers and rocking to sleep this girl who is now lovely and happy and getting married this august to a great seeming guy. I was attempting to straighten up the computer desk yesterday and found this disk of photos of Porter and his friends from daycare taken back in 2002 by his daycare provider Jennifer (who had a cool digital camera before the rest of the world finally caught on, and desided they simply had to have one too-- but I digress...) Here they are Sammy her Daddy and her Wilson Duck. She STILL grins and gurgles at the things. Its excessively cute. I also wanted to mention I've been posting on my writing blog too, if you want to check that out. My mom now has a blog as well, which is big Whoo. I helped her make it in hopes of using it to advertise for her budding seamstressing business (www.myrnaspage.blogspot.com)
She is Tre' Talented and can make just about anything, from elaborate wedding gowns to SCA period costumes and strange fish headed things for my brother's school production of Seussical the Musical. I hope to obtain digital copies of said items soon and will put them on her site.

I was talking to Porter Saturday as he ate lunch and I was feeding Sammy and said "I have two hungry kids, yes I do!" and just had this moment, I have kids plural. I don't know if its because I don't have Porter all the time or I'm just so new to being a mom again, but it really penetrated, pretty much for the first time that I now two children! and aren't they just both adorable?

Hello, just thought that I'd sign in for a change. The pictures below are pretty self-explanatory. We're having a blast with the munchkin. Even the things that people warned us about (lack of sleep, diapers, etc.) have paled in comparison to seeing her smile and laugh.

In other news, I'm starting a second job next month working as a on-call relief person at a few of the group homes here in town. I hope to work a couple of evenings a week. It shouldn't be anything too strenuous, the money will come in handy, and (most importantly) I'll still have plenty of Sammy and Mommy time.

On top is Sammys new favoriteist thing, her Duck. It was a Christmas gift from her Blu Grandma and Kristopher has dubbed it Wilson (after Brian Wilson of Beach Boys Fame) Below is Sammy as of today just minutes ago. Getting fatter and happier by the day, but back to the duck--Samantha, adores Wilson, every time we put her in her changing table and she catches sight of him she grins her huge two dimple grin, and immediately starts makeing happy talking noises at the thing. She burbles and smiles and tries to grab it. It's astonishing, we just laugh every time. So thanks Grandma Bluth, the ducks a big hit.

So there they are Kris and his baby Sammy girl. This was with my same twenty dollar digital, its not bad if you can get just the right distance for focus and the lighting good. Heres the latest Picutre we've got of little Samantha Carolyn. I got a very inexpensive digital camera in my Christmas stocking and took this picture yesterday. Not great resolution, but highly entertaining having the thing.
I want to tip my hat to my sister in law Ashely who has a blog here on blogspot dedicated almost exclusively to pictures of my little nephew. I was inspired!
